19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his first championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.

The win also means he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one various competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a close final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
