Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the team reach places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
